Dear Community Member,
Plans are well underway for the inaugural Hike for Hospice event, benefiting Hospice of Southern Maine and the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. The event will be held on Saturday, October 3rd,  2020 in Scarborough at State Manufactured Home’s Hillcrest Community on the only privately accessed section of the Eastern Trail. Hike for Hospice is an all-inclusive, community-wide, accessible 5K walk on the Eastern Trail or a 1-mile stroll along a paved route.
As we continue to plan Hike for Hospice within the current COVID-19 environment, the health and well-being of our community are our first concern. The Center for Disease Control (CDC), and State guidelines will be carefully monitored and precautions will be exercised in response to the coronavirus.
Currently, planning includes a hybrid participation approach with a limited number of walkers on-site with staggered start times and smaller groups.  Virtual participation is available for those who want to participate but may not be able to attend in person on-site.
Each year, Hospice of Southern Maine cares for more than 1,800 patients and their families. The proceeds from Hike For Hospice will benefit Hospice of Southern Maine , a 501 (c) (3) corporation with the mission to provide compassion, care, and comfort through end of life for their patients and support for their families.  Comprehensive end-of-life care is provided in the comfort of a patient’s own home and the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, regardless of insurance or ability to pay, throughout York and Cumberland counties.
We would like to thank you for your support of  Hospice of Southern Maine.  We hope this letter will spark your interest to  participate in this community event.  We would like to find a sponsorship opportunity that compliments you or your company, recognizing that the pandemic has had an impact on all of our lives.
For example, at the Care Level sponsorship of $2,500 you would be entitled to the following benefits:
  • Recognition on the banner at the event
  • Program recognition with your name and logo
  • Signs at the event along the trail
  • Name on the Hike For Hospice website
  • Logo on our Hike For Hospice T-Shirts
Four generous sponsors, State Manufactured Homes, Norway Savings Bank, and Mickey Greene pledging at the Founder Level, and MaineHealth at the Compassion Level, have started the ball rolling.
As co-chairs, we are striving to involve our entire community in  Hike for Hospice.  Consistent with our mission at Hospice of Southern Maine, we have created multiple pathways to participate, keeping safety and awareness as our focus.  We invite you to contact us directly about this exciting event!
